the Teahouse

The Teahouse is located in a forested valley not far from Neko's Gate.

Lafayette, the Tea Master, is very busy maintaining the magical matrix powered by the Gate and administering the Teahouse. However, his staff will be delighted to greet and serve you.

Teahouse Mission

  • Provide an atmosphere of warmth and kindness at all times of day to as many people as possible

  • A sanctuary for kind people

  • Conversation that comes from the heart, not from the head

  • Maintain a stable location size of at least 30 visitors at the quietest time of day

  • A place for aesthetics, magic, (non-denominational) spirituality.... for domestic affairs and talking about ones' day.

Rules:

  • No unkindness

    • (no harassing people, being snide, making people uncomfortable with innuendos...)

  • Don't be unwelcoming

    • (if they are unkind, ask staff to intervene, use the grumble spell, and/or ignore them)

It is lovely if you are kind and welcoming, but we still welcome you as long as you are not unkind or making people feel unwelcome.

Suggestions:

  • This chat is for peacefulness and kindness between those who are ready to both give it and receive it.

  • Stay out of PM and chat in public. This helps build relationships and community.

  • This is a place to relax over a cup of tea and forget about the strife in the world. If you want excitement or debate, take it somewhere else, such as the Meme Canteen.

  • Look for friendly-looking newcomers in the "People in Chatroom" list, ask them how they are doing, and include them in conversation.

  • Pretend that you are on staff and roleplay bringing people tea, coffee, biscuits, or other comforting goodies.

  • A listening ear and a warm heart are always helpful, but please ask before offering advice or trying to change another's mind.

  • All religions are welcome here. To best honour this, we favour living the spirit of your own the religion but avoid trying to convince others.

  • English is the official Teahouse language. Some foreign language is delightful, but entire incomprehensible conversations can feel unwelcoming.

  • Some people habitually seek attention from others (e.g. by constantly playing a victim or aggressor). These should be elbowed or ignored so they don't steal attention from everyone else.

Rules given by Tea Master himself:

Three essential rules of the Teahouse:

  • Kindness and warmth, it is essential.

  • Respect of magic, it is the prerequisite.

  • Sanctuary, that is the third.

Other Rules

  • Don't share the answers to riddles. The Tea Master has requested that people solve them themselves.

  • The staff are to remain loyal to Teahouse.

In Ireland, you go to someone's house, and she asks you if you want a cup of tea. You say no, thank you, you're really just fine. She asks if you're sure. You say of course you're sure, really, you don't need a thing. Except they pronounce it ting. You don't need a ting. Well, she says then, I was going to get myself some anyway, so it would be no trouble. Ah, you say, well, if you were going to get yourself some, I wouldn't mind a spot of tea, at that, so long as it's no trouble and I can give you a hand in the kitchen. Then you go through the whole thing all over again until you both end up in the kitchen drinking tea and chatting.

In America, someone asks you if you want a cup of tea, you say no, and then you don't get any damned tea.
